I am a dancer. My ideas surface through movement related practice(s) and research that typically take place in a dance space.
Much of my work explores the representation of motion broadly and especially in photography; I am curious if not fascinated by how movement (especially dancing) is understood and how it is visualized in photographs. Within my work, I invite the viewer to see differently, to ‘flip’ their usual visual thinking and to see movement itself. This collection titled ‘Moving Models’ is based on artist/movement theorist Rudolf Laban’s theory of Space Harmony. The images reveal the body/physical form, dynamic energy (Effort), and movement path (Trace Forms) created by the dancer (Claudia Tonietto) moving through space.
